Recipes From My Youth

I was born in raised in Michigan but spent most of my summers in the South with Relatives.  I favor Southern Cooking over Gourmet Food any day.  I remember going to the "Grist Mill" to get corn ground only to go back home and making cornbread with buttermilk and the freshly ground corn on a wood cookstove.  My family was very poor in the south...most had no electricity, much less running water or plumbing.  Needless to say, I had some scary visits to the Old Outhouse with lizards and snakes.

Please share recipes you remember growing up.  You will get credit for sharing them. Do you have memories of your family you would like to share?  We can find a place on this site for them...just email me...Dawn

Lady Riding Mower

I remember coming home at the end of one summer to find my mom and dad had bought a "Gamble's Store" riding lawnmower.  Mom was gonna be the first to try it out.  Goodness we laughed as she ran into the side of the house and part way up it.  You would swear she was hill climbing with that tractor.  Don't think she ever mowed a lawn again.   After my dad got sick I would take care of the mowing...we lost him 27 years ago...and mom last year.  Do you ever quit missing them?
